More about the City Portraits Symphony from Carlos McMillan Fuentes The first movement, called "The Woman at Mills Station," premiered at the city's anniversary celebration on June 30, 2023. It depicts the fictional journey of a woman arriving to Mills Station and the city of Rancho Cordova for the first time, and is also a tribute to Cheryl Gleason, the "woman at Mills Station" who has done so much to foster the arts community there. The second movement, "Pioneers of Air and Space," pays tribute to those who served at Mather Air Force Base and in the aerospace industry, literally bringing our country from land to sky to outer space. The third movement, "Toccata Koreana," is a lighthearted tribute to Koreana Plaza, especially KP International Market. Food is an important part of culture, and KP serves as a marketplace for people of all different cultural backgrounds who make up Rancho Cordova. The final movement, "The American River Parkway," was inspired by the natural beauty of Rancho Cordova, and pays tribute to the Nisenan people who have tended this land for ages.
