"The Woman at Mills Station" by Carlos McMillan Fuentes
Mills Station is a transportation crossroads in the heart of Rancho Cordova. The historical building, moved to the site in 1998 and renovated in 2018, is now The MACC. The MACC, center for the arts, is already an established artistic crossroads in Rancho Cordova and the Sacramento Region. To honor the 20th Anniversary of the City of Rancho Cordova, and the 5th Anniversary of The MACC, the Symphony d’Oro Rancho Cordova has commissioned a musical tribute.
Composed by the symphony’s gifted composer in residence Carlos McMillan Fuentes, "The Woman at Mills Station" musically describes the experience of someone arriving at Rancho Cordova for the first time, with a head and heart full of hopes and dreams. As such, the piece also honors all artists who have shared their creativity and talent at The MACC. The MACC has featured: painting, sculpture and other visual art; music; theater; photography; film; fashion design; and creative writing. The themes in “The Woman At Mills Station” are enigmatic, but warm and expressive, inviting the listener to imagine both the art and the artists yet to be a part of Rancho Cordova’s singular achievement: The MACC.
